More awards and honors for recent Top Shelf gems!

January 25, 2021

Camp Spirit, They Called Us Enemy, and An Embarrassment of Witches have all recently won awards and honors.
The American Library Association's Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) recently unveiled their 2021 list of Great Graphic Novels for Teens, and Axelle Lenoir's irresistible English debut Camp Spirit made the list! Join us in celebrating this spooky LGBTeen hard-rock rom-com that’s as wild as a hot summer night.

The Dwayne McDuffie Award for Diversity in Comics, now in its sixth year, has announced its list of finalist books, including the landmark graphic memoir They Called Us Enemy by George Takei, Justin Eisinger, Steven Scott, and Harmony Becker. Also, community book programs around the country continue to build programming around George Takei's gripping and timely memoir — the State Library of Ohio "Choose to Read" program has even published a "Toolkit" for discussing TCUE in groups. Is your community next?

And congratulations are in order for Sophie Goldstein & Jenn Jordan, whose magical post-graduate dramedy An Embarrassment of Witches was featured in the latest Publishers Weekly Critics Poll for the year's best graphic novels! This honor follows the book's selection by the Comix Experience Graphic Novel Club, which hosted a fascinating livestreamed discussion with the authors. For everyone who's struggled to stay connected with a friend while searching for life's next steps, these Witches will cast a welcome spell.
